Lato is a literary review published in Tîrgu-Mureș. Its editors aim to create a periodical of contemporary Hungarian literature in Transylvania, as well as to present literary works of Hungarians from other countries in a comprehensive literary and cultural spectrum. Lato also embraces classic Hungarian and universal writers and their creations by publishing poems, literary analyses, translations, plays, essays, studies and documents. The yearly themed issues made it possible for numerous authors and new contributors to participate in the creative process as partners. Thus, Látó-Reverie (Revery), Látó-Amfitrion, Látó-Libris, Látó-Urbis, Látó-Penitenciar (Penitentiary) as well as Byzantinism and Orthodoxy, How to Write the History of Hungarian Literature in Romania? appeared.  Other issues present literary workshops from abroad: so far selections of Life and Literature (Elet es Irodalom), Pell (Holmi), Literary Gazette (Irodalmi Ujsag), Hungarian Lettre (Magyar Lettre), Drawing Room (Nappali Haz), Pompei (Pompej) were published. The editors”™ most recent endeavour is to present the literature of the world”™s largest cities in instalments, so far Berlinese-Lato (Berlinese Perspective) and Viennese-Lato (Viennese Perspective) were published under the supervision of Dereky Pal. The Lato literary scene that functions in connection with the Lato review (and had its 100th performance on the review's 15th anniversary) serves the same purpose, namely to expand its group of creators by organizing individual literary evenings or presenting publishings, publishing houses, cultural organizations and various Hungarian creative circles from Romania and from abroad. The Lato review is issued by the Writers”™ Guild of Romania and the Mures County Council, but, like many other periodicals, must be supported by subsidies. The subsidies it received so far and its appreciation are proof that its editors”™ efforts and results are well-received by the readers. The Lato review was awarded the prize of the Free Press Foundation of Hungary on two occasions and has also received the exclusive prize of the upscale Central Café of Budapest. -
