National Archives
The first Regional Department of the State Archives was established in Tîrgu- Mureș in 1952 and included until 1968 the branches of Reghin, Miercurea Ciuc and Odorhei. The current seat of the Archives, inaugurated on December 8, 1978 is on 8 Crizantemelor street. Most of the funds administered by the Archives of Mureș are those of the former administrative institutions that functioned in the area of the current Mureș County. The institution also keeps the archival funds of educational and cultural institutions, churches, as well as family funds. The oldest document dates from 1369 and it is a sales contract for a plot of land in the town of Vulcan. Another important document is the decree of 1470 by which king Matei Corvin grants the town of Tîrgu- Mureș the right to self jurisdiction. The fund of the Teleki family contains two handwritten copies of the Supplex Libelus Valachorum, both dating from 1791. Bibliography: Liviu Boar, Semicentenarul Arhivelor murșene, Tîrgu-Mureș, Ed.
